Who We Are
Every church has a unique identity, a special DNA, which is formed by the interaction of theology, philosophy, and practice. It starts with theology which is a church’s understanding of God and His Scriptures. This theology or understanding of God affects the philosophy of ministry which each church operates within. In other words, what a church believes about God will determine how they view the world around them, and how to best serve the world around them. Finally, this philosophy affects the practical outworking of a local body. We believe in an authentic, serving, sacrificial church family which seeks depthover width. We prefer depth in relationships over sheer numbers of people attending. We pray, and work, that our practice lines up with those beliefs.
As a result of our theology and the way this impacts our philosophy of ministry we don’t have singles, men’s, women’s, or college ministries. That doesn’t mean we don’t minister to those demographics only that we don’t feel as if we must gear a specialized ministry toward a particular group to reach that group.
This philosophy, along with a driving passion that church consists not of a building and not merely of preaching and singing, but in being the living Body of Christ and sharing life together, has driven us to funnel all our adult ministry in and through our Life Groups. Life Groups serve as a focal point in which men and women, single or married, young and not so young, gather together in recognition of our inability to do life alone. Our hope is to create unity in diversity as people interact with those who are perhaps a little unlike themselves.
Other churches embrace a different philosophy of ministry. The most common is the view that church is a Consumer’s Entity. Church is seen as a dispenser of religious goods and services. People come to church to be fed, to have their needs met through quality programs, and to have the professionals teach their children about God. It is common to hear individuals of this particular thinking say, “WE GO TO CHURCH.”
Here at the Bridge we desire to “BE” the church. We trust God to develop a vibrant, healthy and ever-growing community of believers who love God and have a passion to be follow Him. We want to be defined by our relationship with Christ and the journey that He has each of us on.
Picture with us a growing community of Christians who are both individually and together walking with Jesus, who gather on a regular basis to worship and celebrate God, who regularly invest in friends and invite them to connect with Jesus, and who are actively seeking to follow God. Imagine being a part of a body of Believers who create opportunities for people to cross the line of faith, who actively serve their community and who regularly show the kindness of God to the culture around them.
